The St Leonard’s College Mooting Program is an opportunity for Senior School students in Years 10 to 12 to immerse themselves in the intricacies of legal argumentation and courtroom advocacy.”
Our Mooting Program offers a unique and enriching experience for those with an interest in law, legal studies, or the dynamics of courtroom proceedings.
Purpose and Benefits:
Mooting is a simulated court proceeding that provides students with a unique opportunity to argue legal problems before a ‘judge’ or panel of ‘judges.’
Ideal for Senior School students studying Legal Studies or aspiring to pursue a career in law, Mooting is equally valuable for any student interested in teamwork, legal systems, and judicial processes.
Mooting at St Leonard’s College offers students:
  • Hands-on experience in the legal and judicial systems of Australia
  • A chance to work collaboratively in teams
  • Confidence-building in public speaking and presentation skills
  • Enhanced research and analytical capabilities
Students engage with Mooting once a week during lunchtime during the competition periods. The program aligns with key dates, participating in the Bond University Mooting Competition during term 2 and the Scotch College Mooting Competition in term 3.
Major Achievements:
In 2023, St Leonard’s College made a remarkable debut in the Bond University National Mooting Competition, with one of our Victorian teams qualifying for the National Competition held at Bond University. This achievement speaks to our commitment to high potential learning.
The Mooting program helps to cultivate the next generation of legal minds, with students gaining theoretical knowledge and practical skills that will serve them well in their academic and professional journeys.
