The Tournament of Minds (TOM) is a real-world problem-solving competition designed for students in Years 5 to 8.”
This engaging competition requires participants to work collaboratively and independently, developing innovative solutions to real-world problems. Throughout terms 2 and 3, our dedicated teams meet before school, during lunch, and after school (depending on the group) to embark on a six-week journey of intellectual exploration and creativity.  TOM focuses on the Long-Term Challenge, where students choose from four disciplines: STEM, the arts, language literature, and social sciences. As part of the competition, teams also face an unseen Spontaneous Challenge on the day, testing their ability to think on their feet and adapt to new situations.
The purpose and benefits of participating in Tournament of Minds extend far beyond the competition itself. This program aims to enhance the potential of our students by fostering diverse skills, promoting enterprise, instilling time management, and developing the discipline required for successful collaboration within a challenging and competitive environment.  Our values of creativity and diversity shine through in this fun experience, where students learn, grow, and thrive. St Leonard’s College was recently the Primary Language Literature State Champion – an accomplishment that reflects our commitment to excellence and innovation.
