Students in Years 6 to 12 can explore the rhythm and groove of jazz and contemporary music styles at St Leonard’s College, where our vibrant ensembles offer a stage for musical exploration and collaboration.”
Our program features open jazz combos, auditioned jazz bands and vocal ensembles, as well as open guitar ensembles.  
Guitar Ensembles: 
  • Contemporary Guitar Ensemble: Amplify your musical journey with a focus on rock, pop, and blues. Open to guitar students from Years 5 to 10, this ensemble is a fusion of electric energy and contemporary flair. 
  • Acoustic Guitar Ensemble: Journey into more intricate part playing with a repertoire spanning classical, world, jazz, and contemporary styles. This ensemble, welcoming guitar enthusiasts from Years 9 to 12, offers a nuanced exploration of acoustic dimensions. 
Jazz Ensembles:
Our Jazz program is a celebration of the diverse facets of this genre, featuring both standard big bands and smaller combos. 
  • Big Bands: From beginners to experienced, our three big bands cater to students from Years 6 to 12. Auditions determine placement, ensuring students find the right ensemble based on their technical proficiency, reading ability, and blending skills.
  • Tuesday Jazz (Years 10 to 12) and Wednesday Jazz (Years 6 to 9) Ensembles: Immerse yourself in small combos, where students hone their improvisational skills. Open to instrumentalists across all areas, as well as vocalists, these ensembles encourage a fusion of talents and a vibrant exploration of jazz expression.
